Save the Date: February 4-5, 2010 - Winter Institute, Lake Mary

Join your colleagues at the annual Winter Institute for this transforming session with Dr. Hans Bleiker and Annemarie Bleiker of the Institute for participatory Management and Planning (IPMP).

In an interactive format, participants will learn systematic processes for breaking the gridlock that can occur in project approval and implementation.  by switching from a focus on techniques to a focus on objectives, the IPMP team believes public-sector managers can break the political stalemates that so often derail program implementation.  Florida's local government managers and their senior management teams often tackle the issue of "political gridlock" - being an "implementation genius' should help each participant and is a valuable skill set!

The IPMP team will also give class participants access to their e-book so that advance reading can be done for the Winter Institute and also have this material available once the course is over.

Dr. Bleiker and his wife, Annemarie, created the Institute after their respective academic and private-sector work.  Dr. Bleiker created the University of Wyoming's graduate program in community and regional planning and while serving as the graduate program director and as a professor, developed a series of leadership and consent-building program.  The success of these presentations led to Hans and Annemarie's career change and the creation of their Institute.  They work with public and private sector organizations.  A former city planner, Hans also worked with an engineering firm as a planning director.  Annemarie is an urban anthropologist with a specialization in community problem-solving and conflict resolution.  You can learn more about IPMP at www.ipmp.com.

The FCCMA 2010 Winter Institute will be held at the Lake Mary Marriott.  Breaking Political Gridlock by Becoming an Implementation Genius sessions begin Thursday morning, February 4, 2010 and will conclude Friday afternoon, February 5, 2010 at 12:00 noon.  Registration is limited to 80 managers, assistants, deputies and ICMA-CM's and will be filled on a first-come, first served basis.  Cancellations must be received in writing by January 23, 2009 to receive a refund.  Substitutions are allowed.  A $25.00 administrative fee will be charged for cancellation.
