About the Position
In this role, you will…

Lead strategic planning, budgets, and change management initiatives for the Lifeguard Division.

Oversee daily operations, major incidents, and direct supervision of Lifeguard Captains and staff.

Hire, mentor, evaluate, and develop employees while fostering team growth and performance.

Coordinate with county departments, public safety agencies, and community partners to support operations and programs.

Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations while managing equipment, logistics, and training.

Build strong community relationships and represent the division through outreach, programs, and professional partnerships.

About the Schedule
Work Hours:

Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Typical Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

As a reminder, all county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Each employee, without exception, will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency.

About You
To be considered for this role, you must have the following:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, and 4 years of job-related experience in Open Water Beach Lifeguarding, Aquatic Programming, or Open Water Beach Lifeguarding Management.

-OR- An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, and 6 years of job-related experience in Open Water Beach Lifeguarding, Aquatic Programming, or Open Water Beach Lifeguarding Management.

-OR- Year-for-year experience may substitute for the college degree (8 years of related experience minimum).

2 (or more) years of supervisory experience.

Valid Florida driver’s license by date of hire.

The ideal candidate has the following knowledge, skills, and/or abilities:

FL-certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). (Must obtain within 18 months of employment; we can help with this!)

NIMS/ICS certifications 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800. (Must obtain within 12 months from the date of hire; we can help with this!)

Apply technical knowledge, exercise sound judgment, and make effective decisions in emergency and time-sensitive situations.

Lead, manage, and motivate staff through planning, scheduling, training, and performance oversight.

Analyze data, solve problems, and prepare clear, comprehensive reports.

Communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.

Perform physically demanding work under challenging conditions while utilizing essential software and tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, RMS, LMS).

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five years.

Physical Demands: Employees in this role must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.

About Everything Else
Starting Pay Range: $75,233.60 – $83,000.00
