How long have you been an FCCMA member and why did you join? I have been a member since November 2025, and I joined to better connect with my peer managers and stay on top of issues that are important to municipal government.
Are you an ICMA member? Why did you join, and how long have you been a member? Yes. I joined the ICMA for the same reasons as the FCCMA, but also to one day become credentialed.
Please describe your areas of formal/advanced education. I have a BA in Organizational Management and an MS in Criminal Justice. I am a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course, the ICMA’s Emerging Leaders Development Course, and other advanced leadership programs.
Why did you select a career in public service? I believe in serving others as a means to improve quality of life.
Have you always been in the public sector, or have you had experience in the private sector? With the exception of some part-time jobs in high school, I have always been in public service, first in our armed forces beginning at age 17, then as a law enforcement officer for two different municipalities, and now as a city manager.
Please tell us about your current position and give a brief job description if you are not a City Administrator/Manager. I am the city manager for the City of Cape Canaveral.
Please describe your typical day. Meetings or meeting prep, project oversight, visioning and forecasting, and general employee and public interactions.
What is your favorite part of the job? The people! I work with so many motivated and talented people who want to make a difference in their community and their profession.
If you could give one piece of advice to people interested in a career in public service, what would it be? To gain as much exposure to what public service actually entails before applying for a position. Thinking about what it is like to serve a community and experiencing it are vastly different things, so prior exposure through internships, job shadowing, etc., coupled with education are important to making the best career decision.
Who were your mentors, and how have you passed this information down to other aspiring public administrators? My first police chief and other chiefs and experienced people in government in general, be they elected or appointed.
Do you have a story you can share about how being a member of FCCMA has helped you or impacted you in a positive way? Listening to the FCCMA podcasts has been very enlightening, and I look forward to working with members throughout the state in the years to come to create those stories.
